Pick Out a Cool Harry Potter Costume

Boy oh boy, I'm really looking forward to that day of days this year. It's a mad celebration with parties and treats galore. Did you think I was talking about Christmas? It seems as though the the consensus is that Christmas is a holiday that really gets her juices flowing. Yes I'm talking about Halloween.

That mysterious day that only comes once a year, but hasn't quite achieved official holiday status. What's that all about? We love it in our household. Anyway, have you decided what are you going to dress up as this year? Anything special come to mind? Maybe a ghost, ghoul, monster, or devilish fiend? Or maybe go for something a little more current. You know, one of those pop culture figures that are splashed all over the headlines. Well, how about a Harry Potter costume? Last Halloween I must have seen a hundred of them if I saw one. The world has simply fallen in love with Harry Potter and his adventures.

Have you put any thought into wearing a Harry Potter costume for the local costume party or Halloween celebration? Speaking of costume celebrations, I think I've went to some of the biggest parties imaginable. Coming from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, I'm certainly no stranger to Halloween celebrations. You have to understand that back in Chapel Hill, on Adams Street, a little Halloween party has held each year. Okay, that's an understatement, a huge understatement.

The street is basically flooded with high school and college students in their Halloween costumes. I mean thousands and thousands of people as far as the eye can see. So if you happen to be a Halloween nut like I am, you may want to check out this gala event sometime soon. It's similar to Mardigras for Halloween. Not too long ago I was there and spotted quite a few Harry Potter costumes. Predictably it was incredibly popular after the first film was such a smash hit. Everyone wanted to be Harry, Ron, or Herminie. So there's no question that the Harry Potter costume was and still is a wildly popular one.

Are you looking for a fun Harry Potter costume? Well, if you are then may I suggest checking on the Internet. If you haven't checked out the Internet for Halloween shopping, then you really need to. The World-Wide-Web has a whole boatload of costumes and all shapes and sizes. Anything from a mummy, to a witch, to a cheerleader, to a Harry Potter costume can be purchased here. And they can usually get them at a lower cost. So if you're interested, get your Harry Potter costume online now.

Funny Couples Costume Ideas For Halloween

Tired of the same old typical Halloween costumes. You know the ones....vampire, witch, or mummy. It also seems that everyone just "has" to wear the latest movie craze costume as well, like a Batman Begins costume. Maybe it's time to come up with a more unique and funny Halloween costume...just to be different.

If you're somewhat crafty and handy with a sewing machine, many amusing costume ideas can be pretty simple to make. It just takes a bit of ingenuity and creativity. Even so, if you don't have the time or patience to create your own Halloween costume, maybe a friend of yours can help. As a last (or perhaps first?) resort, you can also buy most of these costumes online although it will just cost you a bit more.

So for those wanting something a bit different this year, here are 3 funny Halloween costumes that are easy to make. Perfect for those couples that like to dress up together!

**Plug and Socket**

Materials needed: black cotton material, heavy white iron on interfacing, large square piece of foam (enough to fit around hips), scrap cardboard, gold colored paint, hot glue and gun, black long sleeved shirt, black pants.

1. For the electrical outlet costume, measure from your knees up to your shoulders, then double this length and cut. For the width, measure from shoulder tip to shoulder tip and add an inch. Cut your current length of material to the proper width.

2. Fold the material in half width-wise (ie. if you hold the material in front of you it still falls the full length from shoulder to knees). Cut a hole out of the folded end so your head will fit through. Hem the opening.

3. Slip the material over your head so that it's inside out. Carefully pin the material together 3 to 4 inches below your underarms on each side. Remove the costume and sew seams from the bottom up to your underarm pins. Hem the bottom of the costume.

4. Cut out 2 large socket shapes from the white iron-on interfacing. Carefully cut two rectangles out of the inside of each socket shape (where you "plug" would go). Iron the sockets to the front of the outfit, one above the other.

5. Dress in a black shirt and black pants (or skirt). Slip the costume on and you're done.

6. For the Plug Costume, take the white foam and carefully cut a whole through the back third of the foam piece (not in the center - you want more foam in front to act as the "plug"). Step into the foam and slide it up over your hips. You made need to adjust the opening to fit. If necessary, make two black straps and attach them with a glue gun to the inside front and back openings of the foam and slip the straps over your shoulders to hold the foam in place.

7. Cut 2 "metal plug connections" from the scrap cardboard. Paint with gold paint. Let dry and then carefully slice into the front of the foam to position the plugs. Hot glue into place. Your "plug" costume is finished.

**Traffic Lights**

Materials needed: yellow cotton fabric, 2 squares each of red, green and dark yellow felt, matching colored thread or iron-on double-sided interfacing.

1. As above, cut a tabard from the yellow cotton. Measure from knee to shoulder, double the length and cut. Figure out the width by measuring from shoulder to shoulder and cut your length of material to the proper width.

2. Hem all edges. Fold in half and cut a semi-circle on the fold to fit your head through. Hem the opening. Cut two 4" wide strips of yellow material about 5" to 6" in length (this will vary depending on how large or small you are). Slip the costume on and pin the straps to the back and front on each side near your waist. Sew into place. You might also choose to hem the sides as in Step 3 of Plug and Socket Costume.

3. Cut a red circle, dark yellow circle and green circle. Position on the front of the costume. You can either sew these one or use double-faced iron-on interfacing to secure. Wear black pants and a black, long sleeved jersey underneath.

**Tacky Tourists**

Items needed: white Bermuda shorts, tacky Hawaiian shirts, tacky sandals (for the men, don't forget to wear socks with your sandals), beach comber hats, plastic flowered leis', white zinc ointment, camera, straw beach bag, large funky sunglasses.

1. Just dress up. Add some of the zinc across your noses (don't want sunburn!) and you're good to go.

And there you have it. Three costumes that are simple to make and fun to wear. All it takes is a look around your house to find "pairs" of items that could be turned into funny Halloween costumes that would be perfect to wear as a couple this year.

Why The Halloween Costume Industry is Growing

The Halloween costume industry has been expanding for years. That's because more and more people are interested in wearing the latest Halloween costumes at parties, birthdays, and other dress-up events. That means Halloween costumes aren't just for Halloween anymore. The typical fancy costume party is enough to generate a lot of money for a local Halloween shop. There are many more reasons why the Halloween costume industry is booming right now. They are as follows:

More adults are wearing Halloween costumes. Adult costumes are disappearing from the shelves quickly as the more traditional norms of society have begun to disappear. Before, it was practically taboo for an adult to sport a Halloween costume on Halloween. Now. its common place. Another thing that has added to the popularity of Halloween costumes are costume parties. Generally attended by adults, costume parties are the perfect places to wear outrageous Halloween costumes. Why? You'll get a good laugh or a good scare because of all the unique Halloween costumes.

Adults have been known to attend costume parties in all kinds of getups. Some of the more popular adult costumes are waitress, witch, princess, and movie character. People like to dress up in these costumes because they appeal to other people's emotions easily. For instance, who doesn't get a few childhood memories when they see the wicked witch of the west from the wizard of OZ?

Another reason the Halloween costume business is booming is because consumers are getting a little richer each year. Nowadays, there are more and more opportunities to become a millionaire. The Internet makes it easy for the average adult to start selling items from a personal website and marketing them using Search Engine Optimization or other internet networking techniques. And when consumers have more money, that only means one thing, they buy more stuff. And they buy more Halloween costumes. They buy the costumes both for themselves and their kids.

Kids costumes are the traditional hot seller in the Halloween industry, and there's no lack of parents who annually come into Halloween stores looking for the perfect kid costume for their child. Since there's no shortage of customers, there's also no shortage of costumes. Stores sell all kinds of children's costumes, from cartoon characters to superheroes to religious figures.

Kid costumes have also become popular because schools have programs that encourage children to come to school dressed-to-impress around Halloween. Schools usually have Halloween parades and afternoon Halloween parties. At the parties, kids usually enjoy cookies, cakes, and other sweet treats. And kids come dressed to the hilt in every kids costume imaginable. No one wants to be outdone.

The Halloween costume industry is expected to continue to grow. As more and more babies are born and technology advances, costume makers should be able to produce costumes quicker to end up in stores well ahead of Halloween. Also, as TV and film continue to develop new popular characters, more and more people will want to "become" these characters in costume form.
